The following is an excerpt out of “Radical” by David Platt. Amazing book that challenges us to be the Christians that God called us to be. Just read it and consider it. What is the cost?
“The price of our non-discipleship is high for the poor of this world. Consider the cost when Christians ignore Jesus’ command to sell their possessions and give to the poor and instead choose to spend their resources on better comforts, larger homes, nicer cars, and more stuff. Consider the cost when these Christians gather in churches and choose to spend millions of dollars on nice buildings to drive up to, cushioned chairs to sit in, and endless programs to enjoy for themselves. Consider the cost for the starving multitudes who sit outside the gate of contemporary Christian affluence…
Indeed the cost of non-discipleship is great. The cost of believers not taking Jesus seriously is vast for those who don’t know Christ and devastating for those who are starving and suffering around the world.”
A very shy, local village girl outside of Chiclayo, Peru waiting until the very last minute to come inside the church and watch the Max Lucado kids movie. She stayed riveted to her seat as the movie played to a packed audience.
A homeless man we’ve seen for the past 5 years on the streets in Lima, Peru. We stop and give him bread, water or buy a meal from the street vendors for him. He has never said a word to us but that doesn’t matter. He is still our brother and we are called to help.

Her mom called for her to go and buy some bread for their family of 10 just as the program started and she was not allowed to watch it. At the end, right before we left, we handed her a packet of crayons, coloring book and some candy. It was a vibrant smile we received in return.
In many of the places we visit, the look on the faces and in the eyes of this mother and her daughter outside of Pucallpa, Peru are repeated over and over. Where is the hope? Is anyone out there who can help?
